Hi everyone,

This post is to announce a major update to the Android and iOS apps the upcoming 1st of July.

This new release overhauls the native apps. If you are using the Android or iOS apps, make sure to carefully read these recomendations to avoid loss of data.

Why are we making a new version of the apps

My Guitar Tabs is a web application, also packaged as iOS and Android apps, providing the same experience across all devices.

My Guitar Tabs, as currently available in app stores, has some limitations due to how it is built. Most notably, some users have reported data loss when browser data is cleared on their phones.

Because of this, we are improving the integration with the mobile apps with a reworked version.

Improvements of the upcoming release

  • Songs will be directly stored in your phone, rather than in the browser, preventing unexpected loss of data.
  • Sign in with Google will be supported on iOS.
  • Google and Apple sign in will use native device authentication.
  • Offline support will be available immediately after download, with no need to go online before first use.
  • Several minor bugs on iOS will be fixed.

What to do before the July release

If you are signed in to your account, there's nothing you need to do. Your songs will be backed up automatically.

Because we are changing how data is stored in Android and iOS devices, older songs will become innacessible once the update happens. This will only affect users not logged in of the Android and iOS devices, not the web version.

To prevent loss of data, take action before the 1st of July.

If you don't have an account, we recommend setting up an account (free). Your songs will be automatically backed up and sync across your devices. Once the update comes, just sign in as normal and your songs will be updated.

If you don't have an account and prefer not to create one, you will soon be able to export all your songs to a file. Export a copy with your latest changes before July 1 and use it to restore your songs after the update.

warning

If you create new songs or edit existing ones, remember to export a new backup. Otherwise, those changes will be permanently lost after the update.
